SGS focuses on the UK’s proposals to revise its mandatory classification and labeling list for hazardous substances and mixtures used in Great Britain.

Baar (August 26, 2026) – SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, has published SafeGuardS 115.26, reporting on the UK’s consultation on its plans to revise the Great Britain mandatory classification and labeling list (GB MCL) for hazardous substances and mixtures used in England, Scotland and Wales.

The World Trade Organization’s (WTO) Notification G/TBT/N/GBR/125 was announced on August 7, 2026, outlining the UK Health and Safety Executive’s proposals to amend the GB MCL list. The proposed update would introduce new and revised entries for 20 hazardous substances.

Manufacturers, importers, retailers and other intermediaries operating in Great Britain would be affected by the proposals, which are open for comments until October 6, 2026.

The proposed amendments are expected to be adopted in Q1 2027 and would apply from Q3 2028.

SGS experts publish SafeGuardS to keep stakeholders informed about regulatory changes that could impact their business. SafeGuardS 115.26 includes further information about selected hazardous substances covered by the proposed amendments, including Bisphenol F (BPF) and Bronopol.

Stakeholders are encouraged to refer to the original SafeGuardS 115.26 for more details.
