Founded in 2020, KIMCHANGSOO DISTILLERY is one of the driving forces behind the rise of Korean single malt whisky. Established by master distiller Kim Changsoo — widely regarded as a pioneer of Korean craft whisky — the distillery reflects his long-held ambition to create a truly Korean-made whisky at a time when many believed it was impossible.

Kim’s journey was shaped by global experience. He visited hundreds of distilleries in Scotland to study traditional single malt production and later trained in Japan, where he gained hands-on expertise in small-scale distillation and precision-driven techniques. These experiences formed the foundation of his meticulous, quality-first philosophy.

Located in Gimpo near Seoul, the distillery began as a small artisanal operation with self-designed stills and close oversight of every stage — from fermentation to maturation. Korea’s dramatic seasonal climate, marked by significant temperature swings, accelerates the interaction between spirit and oak, creating a distinctive maturation character that sets Korean whisky apart.

Despite its young history, Kim Changsoo Whisky has earned strong recognition at home and abroad. Early limited releases — including 336-bottle editions — sold out quickly, with enthusiasts lining up for each launch. The distillery has also drawn international attention through features in Whisky Magazine and other global media, particularly for its lightly peated single malts inspired by Islay yet uniquely shaped by Korea’s environment.

Now expanding with a second, larger production facility under construction in Andong, the distillery aims to increase capacity and produce both whisky and premium distilled spirits.
