Founded in 2020, KIMCHANGSOO DISTILLERY stands at the forefront of Korea’s emerging single malt whisky industry. Established by master distiller Kim Changsoo — widely regarded as a pioneer of Korean craft whisky — the distillery represents his long-standing vision to create an authentic, world-class single malt made entirely in Korea.

To build that vision, Kim immersed himself in global whisky traditions. He traveled extensively across Scotland, studying time-honored single malt production methods, and later trained in Japan, where he refined his expertise in small-batch distillation and meticulous process control. These international experiences shaped his philosophy: precision, patience, and a relentless commitment to quality.

Located in Gimpo, near Seoul, the distillery began as a small-scale, hands-on operation. With custom-designed stills and close supervision of fermentation, distillation, and maturation, every step reflects a craftsman’s attention to detail. Korea’s pronounced seasonal climate — marked by hot summers and cold winters — accelerates interaction between spirit and oak, giving the whisky a distinctive depth and character unique to its origin.

Although still young, the distillery has already attracted significant attention. Early limited releases quickly sold out, earning strong support from enthusiasts and collectors, while international whisky publications have highlighted its innovative approach — particularly its lightly peated expressions that draw inspiration from Islay yet express a distinctly Korean profile.

Now expanding with a second production facility under construction in Andong, KIMCHANGSOO DISTILLERY is preparing for sustainable growth. By balancing artisanal craftsmanship with carefully planned expansion, the distillery continues to shape the future of Korean single malt whisky on both domestic and global stages.
