The Rajyapuraskar Scout is recognised for youth-led community and environmental initiatives and will receive the honour at Melmaruvathur on October 10.

B. Ebenezer, a Rajyapuraskar Scout from Avadi, Tiruvallur District, has been selected as a recipient of the Naalaiya Kalam Award 2026 under the Leadership & Social Responsibility category. The recognition acknowledges his involvement in youth leadership, community initiatives, environmental activities and volunteer mobilisation.

The award is being presented by the Dr. Abdul Kalam Trust for Educational & Greenery as part of its 2026 awards programme. The formal presentation is scheduled for 10 October 2026 at the Dr. Abdul Kalam Trust Auditorium, Melmaruvathur, Chengalpattu District, Tamil Nadu, during the Saathanaiyalaar Virudhu Vizhaa 2026.

Ebenezer's recognition follows his involvement in youth-led initiatives that have brought students and volunteers together for practical community activities. His work has particularly focused on creating opportunities for young people to participate in environmental awareness, cleanliness activities and civic responsibility rather than limiting community service to awareness alone.

A notable initiative associated with his work was a cleanliness and environmental improvement drive at Avadi Railway Station. The activity involved more than 120 Scouts and Guides from PM SHRI Kendriya Vidyalaya HVF Avadi, who participated in a coordinated effort aimed at improving cleanliness and encouraging responsible behaviour in a busy public environment.

Avadi Railway Station serves a large and continuously moving population of railway users. The initiative therefore provided an opportunity for young volunteers to take their message of environmental responsibility to a much wider public. The campaign is estimated to have reached more than 10,000 people, including passengers and other railway users who passed through the station during the initiative.

The significance of the activity extended beyond the physical cleaning of a public space. It gave students an opportunity to understand how civic responsibility can be translated into direct action. By working collectively, the Scouts and Guides were able to contribute to a public facility while also demonstrating the role that organised youth volunteering can play in community initiatives.

Ebenezer's involvement in the initiative included coordinating young volunteers and helping organise participation. The experience required teamwork, communication and the distribution of responsibilities among participating students. These practical aspects of the activity became an important part of his development as a youth volunteer and Scout.

His association with the Bharat Scouts and Guides has provided a framework for this work. Scout activities emphasise service, discipline, teamwork, leadership and responsibility, giving young people opportunities to participate in activities that benefit others. Ebenezer has applied these principles through community and environmental initiatives involving fellow students and volunteers.

The Naalaiya Kalam Award's Leadership & Social Responsibility category is therefore directly connected to the nature of his work. The recognition highlights youth participation in activities where leadership involves organising people, identifying community concerns and taking practical steps towards addressing them.

The award also places attention on the contribution of students to community development. Young people frequently participate in environmental campaigns and service activities through schools, Scout groups and other youth organisations. Such programmes can provide valuable opportunities for students to develop leadership skills while making a visible contribution to their surroundings.

For Avadi and Tiruvallur District, Ebenezer's recognition represents a youth achievement emerging from community-oriented work. His selection demonstrates how student volunteers can use organised youth programmes to participate in initiatives addressing everyday civic and environmental concerns.

The Naalaiya Kalam Award is organised by the Dr. Abdul Kalam Trust for Educational & Greenery. The programme is associated with the legacy of Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, former President of India and scientist, whose public message placed strong emphasis on education, scientific thinking, youth development, leadership and contribution to society.

The 2026 Naalaiya Kalam Awards recognise individuals across different areas of achievement. The published programme includes categories covering Leadership & Social Responsibility, Student Achievement, and Science, Technology & Engineering.
Ebenezer's selection under Leadership & Social Responsibility gives particular recognition to the community-facing dimension of his activities. It acknowledges the role of youth volunteers who contribute their time and organisational abilities to initiatives intended to benefit public spaces and communities.

The award presentation on 10 October 2026 will mark the formal recognition of his achievement. The ceremony will take place at the Dr. Abdul Kalam Trust Auditorium in Melmaruvathur as part of the Saathanaiyalaar Virudhu Vizhaa 2026.

For the young Scout, the recognition comes as another milestone in a continuing interest in community service and environmental responsibility. The award provides an opportunity to bring greater attention to the contribution that students and youth volunteers can make through organised community initiatives.

The recognition is also significant because the work behind it was carried out through collective participation. More than 120 Scouts and Guides were involved in the Avadi Railway Station initiative, demonstrating how a young person's leadership can extend beyond an individual activity and involve a larger group of volunteers.

The estimated public reach of more than 10,000 railway users further illustrates the potential scale of community initiatives conducted in public spaces. While the immediate activity focused on cleanliness and environmental responsibility, its wider purpose was to encourage responsible public behaviour and demonstrate that young people can contribute constructively to their surroundings.

Ebenezer's journey also illustrates the connection between Scouting, education and community service. Participation in structured youth programmes can give students practical experience in planning, teamwork and responsibility while allowing them to address real-world issues.

The Naalaiya Kalam Award 2026 will formally recognise these efforts when the honour is presented in October. The occasion will provide a wider platform for acknowledging the contribution of a young Scout from Avadi whose activities have combined youth participation with community and environmental initiatives.
