SINGAPORE — September 3, 2026 — Salonist, the salon and spa management platform used by more than 15,000 businesses worldwide, today shared new data showing a drop in missed appointments among salons using its Saloni AI assistant alongside automatic booking reminders.
No-shows have long been a costly problem for salon owners, taking up a chair, a stylist's time and a slot that could have gone to another client. Salonist's data shows salons combining Saloni AI with automatic text and email reminders are seeing fewer missed appointments than salons relying on manual booking alone.
Saloni AI plays a role in this by confirming appointment details at the time of booking and by rebooking cancelled slots quickly, before they sit empty on the calendar. The assistant can also reach out to clients who have a pattern of late cancellations, offering easier ways to reschedule instead of cancelling altogether.
Salon owners say the shift toward AI-assisted booking reflects a wider change in how clients expect to interact with a salon. Many clients now prefer to book, confirm or reschedule an appointment through a text message or a quick call rather than waiting on hold, and Saloni AI is built to handle both.
"No-shows are not usually about clients not caring. They are about a person forgetting, or not having an easy way to reschedule when their day changes. When we make it simple to move an appointment instead of skipping it, we see fewer empty chairs. That is really what this data is telling us," said Neeraj Gupta, Founder and CEO of Salonist.
Salonist said the reduction in no-shows is most visible among salons that turned on both Saloni AI and automatic reminders together, rather than using either tool alone. The company plans to publish more detailed figures on no-show rates in an upcoming industry report later this year.
Beyond the direct cost of an empty chair, Salonist said reducing no-shows also helps salons plan staffing more accurately, since managers can trust the schedule they see is closer to what will actually happen that day. This matters most during peak hours, such as weekend afternoons, when a single no-show can throw off bookings for the rest of the day.
Salonist continues to expand Saloni AI to more markets, with the assistant already handling calls in several of the 13 languages supported across the platform. The company holds PCI DSS, SOC 2, HIPAA, GDPR and CCPA compliance across all customer and client data.
Some salons have also started using Saloni AI to send a short check-in message the day before a first-time client's appointment, confirming the service booked and giving the client an easy way to reschedule if needed. Salonist said first-time clients are more likely than regulars to no-show, making this early check-in one of the more effective uses of the assistant so far.
Salonist plans to keep tracking no-show trends across its customer base and will share further updates as more salons adopt the combined AI and reminder system across new regions.
